Most apps teach Spanish one word at a time. Most textbooks teach tables. You end up recognising a lot and saying very little.
You recognise plenty of words, but can’t put a sentence together.
Every lesson ends with you writing whole sentences from memory, not just tapping tiles.
You learned a rule, and a week later it was gone.

Listen, understand, then recall
Every lesson follows the same four steps. The scene at the top of this page is the start of Day 1. Here are the other three, working the way they do in the course.

Hear a short scene
Two friends, one flat in Valencia, a few lines of real conversation. Play each line, then read it with the English underneath.

Open a note when something is new
Each highlighted phrase has a short note that explains why the Spanish works that way, so you can reuse it elsewhere.

Practise from memory
Recognise, then fill a gap, then write the whole sentence. A missing accent still counts, but you’ll see it.

Let the cards come back
A few phrases from each lesson join your deck. Rate how well you remembered, and FSRS decides when you see them again.

Why it works
Nothing here is a trick. The method rests on three of the most replicated findings about memory.
Recalling beats rereading
Students who practised recalling a text remembered more of it a week later than students who spent the same time rereading it.

Week 1: Marta arrives
